Since MultiChoice was formed in 1993, it’s worked hard to live up to its tagline ‘enriching lives’. Over the years, MultiChoice has given back to its customers, as much as it has gotten. Let’s see how MultiChoice Africa has played its part in nurturing the future generation.
As an African company, MultiChoice Africa has dedicated itself to elevating the younger generation in Africa. They started several community development programs that they believe would positively impact the younger ones whose interests varied from sports to creative works. These include:
Let’s Play
Think of healthy living and fun mixed together, that is what Let’s Play is all about. In a bid to encourage social skills and enhance development among children, SuperSport (a brand owned by MultiChoice), created fun competitions and training programmes for children.
MultiChoice Resource Centres (MRC)
Education is a key and MultiChoice gets that which is why they established MultiChoice Resource Centres, over 2000 centres, all over the continent. These centres provide audio-visual teaching aids; like DStv Educational packages and other equipment like generators, computers and writing materials like books and pencils to schools for free.
Diski Challenge
One thing that Africans love is football and MultiChoice decided to create football competitions for community soccer league teams. Diski Challenge provides an opportunity for young talents to grow their skills and receive training. The matches are also aired on DStv, so you get to see your favourite local teams and maybe, even your son or daughter.
MultiChoice Talent Factory
Africa is becoming a creative powerhouse, and to encourage the younger generation, MultiChoice Africa created MultiChoice Talent Factory. With 3 academies across Africa, they are giving young creatives all over Africa a chance to learn from the greats of the industry and improve their filmmaking skills.
Mnet Magic in Motion
Similarly, Mnet Magic in Motion was also started to help develop young people’s skills in the film and TV industry and empower the next generation of storytellers. It gives young South Africans on-the-job training, plus a chance to work with the people who make the movies that they watch and love. It’s really is like magic.
DStv Eutelsat Star Awards
In 1999, MultiChoice Africa and Eutelsat Communications partnered to create the DStv Eutelsat Star Awards. It featured an essay competition whereby the winners stood a chance to witness a space launch. How exciting! The aim was to stimulate more interest in science and technology among secondary school students across the continent.
Research Chair in Machine Learning
MultiChoice South Africa announced the sponsorship of a Research Chair in Machine Learning at the University of Pretoria. This was to foster the development of skills in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning technology in South Africa. This included financial assistance for students in their final year and Honours projects through to Masters and PhD degrees in the fields of Engineering, Data Science or Computer Science.
MultiChoice Africa is committed to continued investment in long term corporate social initiatives which strive to uplift, support and enrich the lives of young Africans.
