The 2019 MTV European Music Awards is going to hold tomorrow, Sunday 3rd, November 2019 in Seville, Spain, and a new Best African Act will be crowned. Four Nigerians have already won the award five times out of the 10 it has been given and we look forward to having another Nigerian join that exclusive list.
This year, Burna Boy and Teni are nominated alongside TooFan, Harmonize, Nasty C and Prince Kaybee. The year has been big for both Burna Boy and Teni with multiple award nominations and wins. Burna boy has already won one international award this year – the BET award for Best International Act: Africa and Teni had the most wins at the 2019 Headies.
While some of the people who are up against Burna and Teni for thee Best African Act award may be new to you, it is important to know who they are as you support Burna Boy and Teni. Let’s take a quick look at the other acts nominated for the award of the ‘Best African Act 2019’.
TooFan: They are a two-man ‘Pop music’ group (Barabbas and Master Just) based in Togo who have been in the music business since 2005, releasing 7 albums to date. They recently won the award for ‘Best African Group’ at the 2019 African Muzik Magazine Awards.
Harmonize: The Tanzanian musician’s real name is Rajab Abdul Kahali and he has been active in the music industry since 2011 under Diamond Platinumz’s record label, WCB Wasafi. He has released two albums and an EP since then and won three awards, including the African Muzik Magazine Award for ‘Best Newcomer’ in 2016.
Nasty C: The South African rapper, Nsikayesizwe David Junior Ngcobo became popular after he released his mixtape, ‘Price city’ in 2015. Since then, he has released two studio albums and one EP. The 22-year old has been nominated and won several awards, including the 2018 Headies Award for African Artiste of The Year.
Prince Kaybee: He is a South African DJ and musician who is one of the biggest names in South African ‘House’ music. He has been nominated and won several awards, including the South African Male Artist of the Year Award in 2018.
By Monday morning, we would have a new ‘Best African Act’ and we can only hope that it is either Teni or Burna boy that wins the award. Who do you think is going to win, Burna Boy or Teni?
