Lagos traffic has always been crazy, and driving on the roads could be tantamount to dipping your head in bleach.
The Rapid Response Squad (RRS) and Lagos State Traffic Management Agency (LASTMA) have now set out to ensure violators of traffic rules do not get away with just a slap on the wrist. This new modus operandi has been evident since Babajide Sanwo-Olu took over the reigns as state governor.
Traffic offenders are now being dragged before mobile courts, paying hefty fines while risking their vehicles getting impounded by the government.
Some I-don’t-usually-hear-word people have already been dealt the hammer blow for their violation of traffic rules. See them:
These persons take ‘one way’ on Opebi road
The RRS caught these two motorists cruising on a fast lane – actually, they drove against traffic – on Opebi road, Ikeja about two weeks ago. They were taken to the police HQ, from where they were charged to court to account for their sins. The court’s verdict was forfeiture of their vehicles.
‘School boy’ strips naked to escape arrest
A commercial driver had to desperately strip to his underwear to evade arrest after he made ‘school boy’ error by driving against traffic with his Danfo bus about two weeks ago. He escaped, but the vehicle was impounded.
Tricycle rider also gets in the web
If you do a survey on the most annoying road users in Lagos right now, there is no doubt tricycle riders will come tops. One of such riders with no regard for traffic laws was also caught in the web of RRS clampdown about two weeks ago.
The ‘stubborn goat’ eventually gets his stick
Good people of God, please don’t let anyone lie to you; it is important to value second chances! This commercial bus driver has had to learn the hard way for not valuing a lifeline handed to him by officials of the RRS.
He was caught driving against traffic at Opebi roundabout two days ago, but the good officers who caught him told him to go and sin no more. Guess what our good friend did? Yep, you guessed it – he simply waited for the officers to leave the spot and he proceeded on his traffic violating journey at full speed. Guess what? Yep, you guessed it again – he was caught!
There you have it. There’s a new Sherrif in town and his mission is to ensure all road users comply with Lagos traffic rules or face the music. Please comply.
