Seyi Shay is about to turn her lemons into lemonades.

Some two years ago, the singer came under fire over what many considered a televised display of ignorance. During an interview on HIP TV, Seyi Shay was asked to tell what the popular musical terminology; EP (Extended Play) stands for and oh well, Seyi gave a rather shocking response; Electric Package!

Although she later explained that it was an intentional mistake, fans weren’t having it; not from someone who has been professionally making music for over a decade. This would later become one of the most talked about television moments of 2016.

Two years later, Seyi has decided to prove that an EP could actually be an Electric Package. During a recent interview with NET TV, the singer revealed that she’s set to bless fans with a new EP and yes, you guessed right – it’s titled “Electric Package”.  Genius right?

Yesterday (April 18), fans and colleagues of the singer converged at the luxurious odeum of Zenbah in Victoria Island to have a first listen of the tape. Veteran music producer TY Mix was saddled with the responsibility of conducting the flow of the listening.

The six-track tape is an all-collaboration project as each track featured either a DJ or an artiste. Electric Package opened with “One Love” which Seyi Shay explained was put together by DJ Spinall and closed with the Slim Case assisted “D Vibe”.

Glaring about the Electric Package EP was Seyi Shay’s laudable versatility. Every song offered a stand-alone vibe resulting from her unrelenting sonic experiments. Highlife, traditional Nigerian pop rhythms, and the trending wobe (shaku-shaku) sound were all that the singer played with.

The project features vocal contributions from; Kiss Daniel, Tanzania’s Vanessa Mdee, Ghana’s King Promise, Slim Case and Flavour who was enlisted in the projects lead single “Alele” set to be released on Friday.

Stand-out ballad “All I Ever wanted” interpolated lyrics from veteran singer Onyeka Owenu who Seyi Shay explained gave her consent. “Mommy Onyeka Owenu couldn’t be with us tonight because she is currently out of the country. But she allowed me use her lyrics in the chorus”, Seyi disclosed.

The Electric Package EP will be released on May 11, 2018.
