Popular Nollywood actress, Kate Henshaw, has reacted strongly to the appointment of Senator Elisha Abbo as the patron of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN).
In a Tweet, she called out the president of the Actors Guild of Nigeria, Emeka Rollas, telling him that she did not find Elisha Abbo worthy to stand as a patron of the AG.
‘Emeka Rollas, I cannot find your handle on Twitter, my name is Kate Henshaw and I do not mince words when I say @AbboElisha is NOT worthy to be a patron of the Actors Guild of Nigeria. We have women in this guild and we do not want to be slapped!!’
Last year, the senator from Adamawa state was caught assaulting a woman at a sex toy shop in Abuja. The CCTV footage of the assault quickly went viral, sparking outrage from concerned Nigerians.
The senate created a panel to investigate the case, and Elisha Abbo, displaying no form of remorse, asked the panel to question him off-camera. The senator was additionally investigated by the police and arraigned on two counts of criminal assault.
Despite contrary evidence in a public apology where he admitted and apologised for his wrongdoing, he pleaded not guilty to both charges and was granted bail of five million Naira.
The entire case controversially ended with the Northern politician giving a public apology to Nigerians and to the woman involved. However, the general public did not see his apology as being enough of a punishment for his actions or discouragement to others who engaged in violence against women.
Following his ‘insincere apology’, Kate Henshaw notably said, “We must as a people see things to a logical conclusion. Examples must be made, impunity in any form, from anyone, is unacceptable.”
The Actors Guild of Nigeria is a body that regulates the activities of Nigerian film actors and represents their interests in Nigeria and outside the country.
