According to the Special Assistant to the Governor on Electronic Media, Simeon Nwakaudu, Yobo’s appointment takes immediate effect.
With this, Yobo has now joined former teammate, Nwankwo Kanu as political office holders. Kanu was appointed Special Adviser to Imo State governor, Rochas Okorocha in 2011.

Meanwhile, the Rivers State-born soccer star and his wife, Adaeze were conferred with chieftaincy titles in his hometown, Ogoni on Sunday, May 29, 2016.
Yobo retired from football at the World Cup in Brazil in 2014 after chalking up 101 caps at the Super Eagles.
