Nigerian singer Tiwa Savage‘s rumoured impending deal with Jay Z’s Roc Nation has been a hot topic in the entertainment industry and on social media for the past few days.
No one knows for sure if there’s actually a deal pending, or if anything will eventually materialize. But at least two respected Nigerian A&R execs (Tola Odunsi and Bizzle Osikoya) are saying it will happen.
With the news gaining ground by the day, Tiwa Savage and Mavin have maintained a suspicious silence, which many say could suggest agreement.

If the deal pulls through, what could be the implications for Tiwa Savage and everyone invested in her career?
Here’s what we think at TheNETng.
THE GOOD
The deal could make Tiwa Savage the first Nigerian female pop star to go global with incredible international recognition. Opportunities for better management and collaborations could help harness her talent and image better, and break down barriers.
With Rihanna, Meek Mill, Big Sean, Shakira and others as her label mates, getting that elusive international collaboration should now come easy, especially if she’s considered a priority act.
Already a multiple brand ambassador, the new deal could open doors for more local and international endorsements for Tiwa Savage.
Even if she doesn’t accomplish much internationally, regularly rubbing shoulders with global stars will boost her career back home, with an enhanced reputation that should bring in more business.
THE BAD
The Don Jazzy factor may raise its head again. Remember, Don Jazzy refused to go along with D’Banj when he got the Kanye West’s G.O.O.D Music deal that led to the eventual break up of Mo’ Hits in 2012.
She will definitely need to spend more time out of the country and it’ll surely affect her presence in the Nigerian market (D’Banj knows better now).
Also, Nigerians are highly sentimental. Although many wish Tiwa Savage the best now after the dirty linen of her marriage was spread out in public following the mental breakdown of her husband Tee Billz.
These same well-wishers may start to drag her family into this, insinuating many negative things against Tiwa, the same way they dragged D’Banj’s mother into the Don Jazzy and D’Banj feud.
THE UGLY
She might still need her estranged husband’s consent especially when it comes to the paperwork, as they both own her management company in Nigeria – 323 Entertainment.
The extremists might come up with the usual Illuminati theory, considering that Roc Nation artistes are often alleged to be affiliated with the mythical group.
Remember how much of big deal it was when D’Banj was leaving Mo Hits for G.O.O.D Music and how some concluded that Don Jazzy didn’t leave along with D’Banj because he wouldn’t bow down to the group.
Let’s wait and see!
