A selfie with Hollywood A-list celebrities in it set a new Twitter record as the most retweeted post on the social network.
Host of the night, Ellen DeGeneres, took out her phone and beckoned to the front row stars to join her in a selfie, which she posted on Twitter.
The photo went on to garner 2.3 million retweets, creating a new record as the most retweeted post on the social network.
The selfie, which was taken by actor Bradley Cooper, included Brad Pitt and wife Angleina Jolie, Meryl Streep, Kevin Spacey, Julia Roberts, Channing Tatum, Lupita Nyong’o and her brother Junior.
Twitter sent out an apology for disrupted service for more than 20 minutes due to the level of retweeting. DeGeneres later said at the ceremony that the picture had crashed Twitter.
‘We really just made history. We’re all winners tonight,’ she said.
The tweet broke the previous record of 778,000 retweets set by the photograph of US president Barack Obama hugging his wife Michelle Obama after his re-election in 2012.
