Whether you call her a survivor or powerful singer, you are right on both counts. The talented singer named Kechi Okwuchi is on her way to making history, after winning the golden buzzer at two different editions of the prestigious America’s Got Talent reality show.
The show which made a comeback on Monday night brought 10 former contestants who were considered outstanding in previous editions back for a contest of champions. All ten of them were made to perform in order to proceed to the finals.
In 2017 while a participant on Season 12 of the show, the 27-year-old Nigerian-born singer stunned Simon Cowell and other judges with her rendition of Katy Perry’s song ‘By The Grace of God’. She also received a standing ovation from the audience and the judges who all gave her the needed approval for qualification.
This season, the Texas-based superstar has again stunned the audience and judges as she performed Callum Scott‘s “You Are The Reason”. The amazing performance saw her get into the finals ahead of two past winners of the main show, performance artistes, Kenichi Ebina (2013) and ventriloquist, Paul Zerdin (2015).
“I’m going, to be honest with you. I didn’t really like it that much, I actually loved it,” Cowell told Kechi before hitting the real Golden Buzzer.
Okwuchi rose to worldwide fame on season 12 of “America’s Got Talent” in 2017 where she finished in the sixth position, performing her cover of Estelle‘s anthem ‘Conquero.’
Kechi Okwuchi was one of the two people who survived the 2005 Sosoliso plane crash; a tragedy which took the lives of 107 people. She has had to undergo several corrective surgeries afterward to facilitate her recovery.
Yes, she’s a survivor; a really blessed one!
