It isn’t often that one gets the privilege and honour to work with a consummate performer of Sam Loco Efe’s caliber. In fact, truth be told, his amazing ability to move seamlessly from one performance platform to the other is a rare skill that many fervently pray for: for Uncle Sam though, it was second nature.
To sit back and watch Uncle Sam in performance is always an amazing experience. To perform alongside him was an experience worthy of a Master class in acting. But to direct him, to call the shots and watch him give birth to characters that leave indelible marks in lives of audiences; that was an honour.
I was so honoured when I worked with Uncle Sam in Checkmate. I know many of my colleagues here have also been so honoured. When many practitioners of his caliber sneered at our industry in its early days, Uncle Sam embraced us as an elder who understood that every adult must first walk in baby steps.
Because Sam Loco Efe blessed so many lives across the globe with his talent, technique and discipline, we felt it was necessary to honour him in return by indoctrinating him into the BOBTV Best of the Best Honours List, in 2008. We honoured him, but we are the ones who are honoured to have had the privilege to honour him
We cannot say goodbye. We do not say goodbye in our world. So I say to you Uncle Sam; goodnight, and thank you.
