George Zimmerman, the man accused of the murder of African American Trayvon Martin has been found NOT GUILTY of second-degree murder and manslaughter on Saturday, July 14, 2013
According to USA Today, the verdict ‘means the jury of six women found that Zimmerman justifiably used deadly force and reasonably believed that such force was ‘necessary to prevent imminent death or great bodily harm’ to himself — Florida’s definition of self-defense’.
Zimmerman showed no emotion as the verdict was read. He later smiled slightly and shook hands with his lawyers. ‘I think he’s going to be great. I think he is still worried. Hopefully everyone will respect the jury’s verdict’, Zimmerman attorney Mark O’Mara said at a press conference after the verdict was read.
The case which has been running since Martin’s death in February will definitely be profiled in America’s history, especially because it occurred at a time when racial profiling and state gun laws are still a hot debate.
‘Even though I am broken-hearted, my faith is unshattered. I will always love my baby Tray … even in his death I know my baby proud of the FIGHT we along with all of you put up for him’, Trayvon’s father, Tracy, posted on Twitter.
