For many celebrities, receiving a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame is a sign of having reached the absolute pinnacle of their careers.


The pink stars set on the ground carrying the names of chosen celebrities are on the most famous street in the world – the Hollywood Boulevard. More than 10 million tourists visit the Walk of Fame every year.

Recipients have included everybody from Michael Jackson to Eddie Murphy, Jennifer Lopez, Queen Latifah, Pharrell, Mariah Carey, Jennifer Aniston, Viola Davis .


However, it has excluded some other stars, like Kanye West and his wife, Kim Kardashian.


But how are celebrities selected for a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame? It’s a little complicated so let’s break it down for you.

2. To get a star, a celebrity must be nominated by fans, management, movie studios, record company or the celeb themselves. Around 200 applications are received and processed each year.

3. The selection committee meets in June to choose awardees for the next year. Each nominee must have been in their field for at least five years.

4. Some of the criteria for selecting include popularity and ability to draw tourists to the location.

5. There is an induction fee of $40,000 for chosen nominees to cover the construction, the replica to be taken away by the recipient and the unveiling ceremony.

6. However not all awardees will get a ceremony; those who want one have five years to arrange it or they lose the offer.

7. The organization gives out only one posthumous star every year and the person must have died for a minimum of five years.
