It appears another season of Nigerian celebrities venturing into politics in different states across Nigeria is upon us again.
Most prominent are actor, Yul Edochie and singer, Kcee, who declared their intentions to run for governor of their state, Anambra.
And while a few had a successful entrance to the corridor of power, there were few more celebrities whose political careers ended even before taking off.
9ice
Abolore Akande, popularly known as 9ice, took the music industry by storm following the release of his hit single, ‘Gongo Aso’, following up with several other tracks.
And just when his Street Credibility started waning in the music industry, 9ice tried his luck in politics but failed to win the hearts of his party people.
Abolore Akande lost at the APC primaries in Ogbomosho where he contested for a House of Representatives seat from the Ogbomosho North/South and Orire Federal Constituency.
9ice lost to the son of ruling king, Akeem Oyewunmi. However, he’s not ruled out trying his hands in politics again.
Kate Henshaw
Award-winning actress with many movie features to her credit, Kate Henshaw battled to be the representative of Municipal/Odukpani Federal Constituency in Cross River State.
However, she lost at the primaries.
Julius Agwu
Comedian, Julius Agwu didn’t stop at making people laugh at events, he actually took his jokes to the people of Rivers State, sort of.
During the 2015 election, Julius Agwu declared his intention to contest as the governor of Rivers State, a decision he later aborted weeks before the primaries.
Bob-Manuel Udokwu
Not many would know this, but Nollywood actor and producer, Bob-Manuel also tried his hands on politics in his state.
The celebrated movie director contested for a seat in the Anambra State House of Assembly representing Idemili North constituency but lost to Tony Muonagor a.k.a Tony OneWeek – a fellow compatriot in the movie industry.
He did get appointed as Senior Special Adviser on Creative Media to then Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi in 2013.
Kanayo O. Kanayo
It’s quite a long time he tried it out – Anayo Onyekwere popularly known as Kanayo O. Kanayo contested for a seat to represent Ahiazu/Ezinihitte Mbaise Federal Constituency of Imo State.
Before the loss, Kanayo O. Kanayo was already stepping aside from the Nollywood movie industry but later made a come back after his failed political trial.
In the end, there is no shame in them trying to serve their country.
