Domestic violence isn’t the most glamorous subject in African music, but it is an important one. After all, music isn’t just for entertainment – it has the ability to confront social stigmas and shed light on vital issues.
In the song Like I Do, DJ Klem and Damola Adelakun confronts this complex and troubling subject, as Adelakun tells the tale of a woman whose husband conveniently functions as a dual personality – a demon within the confines of his home, but an angel to the rest of the world.
‘You don’t know him like i do, you only scratch the surface, you don’t have a clue, there’s so much sides he’ll never show to you, i promise you, you don’t know him like i do,’ Adelakun sang.
