Dizzee Rascal has been confirmed as the winner of the Best International Act category at the BET Awards. Nigerian ambassadors M.I. and P Square, who were nominated in the same category, were present at the awards show and were even interviewed on the red carpet by Nick Cannon. Many Nigerians stayed up to follow the show with the hope of seeing one of their own carry the award but were disappointed that the category wasn’t even announced or presented during the show, and the winner wasn’t known till afterwards.
The show was a huge success overall with a Lifetime Award tribute done for Prince by many top musicians. A tribute was also done for Michael Jackson by Chris Brown who burst into tears during his performance which many artists and viewers have been praising since as the best MJ tribute done yet, even though it comes a year late. Chris Brown might have been an inappropriate candidate for the tribute last year due to his criminal case with Rihanna.
The nominations of M.I. and P Square have been a milestone for Nigeria and we hope this will open bigger doors for the Nigerian music industry.

I'm proud of P Square and MI. Even though they could not win the award their nomination was a great one.
