Amercian singer and actor Demi Lovato has taken a break from rehab in a bid to visit a mental health expert in Chicago, Illinois, according to reports.
According to TMZ, sources close to the pop star say she flew out of Los Angeles with her mother on Thursday (09Aug18) to meet with a top psychiatrist, who specialises in mental health and sobriety issues.
Ms Lovato was scheduled to spend the weekend in Chicago, undergoing treatment before she returns back to the rehab facility she checked into on Saturday (04Aug18).
The need for Demi to visit spend time with the specialist in Chicago was at the instance of officials in rehab, according to the sources who spoke with TMZ.
The former Disney child star was admitted in hospital for two weeks after reportedly suffering a drug overdose at her home in the Hollywood Hills last month (Jul18). Though her publicist played down rumours that the singer had overdosed on heroin, little else is known about her latest health struggles.
The 25-year-old had been open about her struggles with alcohol and drugs, depression, eating disorders, and self-harming in the past.
“I have always been transparent about my journey with addiction,” Demi wrote on her Instagram. “What I’ve learned is that this illness is not something that disappears or fades with time. It is something I must continue to overcome and have not done yet,” she added
She went on to explain that she will be taking some time to focus on her sobriety and “road to recovery”, adding: “The love you have all shown me will never be forgotten and I look forward to the day where I can say I came out on the other side. I will keep fighting.”
She has also cancelled the remainder of her ‘Tell Me You Love Me’ World Tour as she continues to recover.
