The seventh season of Game of Thrones might have come and gone but Nigerian musicians are still in touch with its craze as Sassy Lanister and Daenerys Targaryen the mother of Dragons are no longer the only ones gunning for the iron throne.
First, it was Dbanj and now it’s Harrysong.
Dbanj announced the release of his King Don Come album in June and the official album cover depicted an image of the Koko master sitting on the iron throne. Impressive album cover and meticulous art direction (credit to Duke Arts the hand behind the design).
Harrysong has also tapped into the ‘Iron Throne’ obsession for the cover art of his soon to be released King Maker album – only that it is a china version of the throne.
What would have inspired their respective album covers if there was no Game of Thrones? Nigerian musicians have in recent times proven to be uninspired as they jump on any idea available and exploit opportunities unapologetically.
Both Dbanj and Harrysong have crowned themselves King of the Seven Kingdoms.
It is really okay. But everyone who is gunning for the iron throne should just remember that winter is coming…
