Claudio Bravo proved the hero for Chile at the end of a keenly contested Confederations Cup semi-final against Portugal.
The Manchester City keeper helped Chile to a 3-0 win on penalties against the European champions, saving all three penalties played by Portugal in the encounter.
Both nations were unable to get a breakthrough after 90 minutes, while Chile came closest to taking the lead right at the end of extra time.
Arturo Vidal saw his shot come off the Portugal post while substitute, Martin Rodriguez‘s follow up hit the crossbar.
Vidal brushed off that miss by smashing in the first penalty, while Bravo saved from Ricardo Quaresma.
Charles Aranguiz scored Chile’s second and Bravo performed his heroics by diving to his right post to save from Joao Moutinho.
Alexis Sanchez scored the third penalty for Chile and yet again, Bravo saved a Portugal penalty kick – this time taken by Nani – to send Chile to the final.
Chile now await the winner of the second semi-final between Germany and Mexico; who clash on Thursday.
The Confederations Cup final will be played in St. Petersburg on Sunday, July 2, preceded by the third-fourth place playoff on the same day.
