Bobby Brown, ex husband of late American singer and actress, Whitney Houston, has filed legal action against the British Broadcasting Corporation, BBC, and Showtime Networks over an unauthorized footage used in their Whitney Houston documentary.
Houston, 48, was found dead in a hotel bathtub in 2012 and Brown, who had a tempestuous marriage with the late singer from 1992-2007, is seeking $2 million (£1.56m) in damages, according to the court documents filed in New York.
The case was filled on behalf of himself and the couple’s daughter Bobbi Kristina – who died in 2015, under similar circumstances as her mother. Brown alleges that the footage showing them, was used without their permission.
The suit claims that Brown and his late daughter appear in the documentary for more than 30 minutes and have never given approval for the footage to be used. He alleged that the footage was from their 2005 reality show, “Being Bobby Brown”.
The suit also includes an attachment which is a 2016 letter from Broomfield to Brown’s lawyers trying to obtain a fresh interview for the documentary.
The documentary premiered at last year’s TriBeCa film festival, and aired in the US on Showtime in August, before being screened in the UK by the BBC in December.
The BBC said they had no comment while Showtime is also yet to respond.
