Marvel studio’s Black Panther has become the first superhero movie ever to be nominated for Best Picture at the Oscars after bagging seven total nominations for the 91st Academy Awards.
In addition to its milestone Best Picture nod, the movie got nominated for Original Score, Original Song (“All the Stars”), Costume Design, Production Design, Sound Editing, and Sound Mixing.

The movie which is set on the fictional kingdom of Wakanda tells the story of King T’Challa, and his struggle to balance his personal ideals and the safety of his people.
Black Panther has so far raked in $1.3 billion worldwide, and its box office success is significant not only because the film is now the third-highest-grossing movie of all time in the US but because it featured a black lead character and a predominantly black cast which resonated with people of African decent worldwide.
