If R Kelly thought his sitdown with CBS’ Gayle King was going to calm his troubled waters down, he thought wrong. Since the fiery interview aired, the parents of his two live-in girlfriends have been speaking out as well. Angelo and Alice Clarys were also interviewed by King and admitted their own failings in allowing their then 17-year-old daughter, Azriel take up with R Kelly.

The distraught parents say they haven’t seen their daughter in years after she accused them of asking her to be sexual with the singer so they can blackmail him for money. “When I was 17, my parents were actually making me, trying to get me to take photos with him, take sexual videos with him, all kinds of stuff,” she said in her own interview.

The Clarys deny that but say that their hope was that R Kelly would help their daughter become a star. “I trusted my daughter would be honest with us, and this was strictly her music. R. Kelly had a platform, as big as music could ever give somebody. I didn’t see the label stop supporting him,” said Angelo.

They went on to say that Azriel who is now 23, had tried to take her own life when a high school boyfriend broke her heart and when she threatened to kill herself if she didn’t go on tour with Kelly, they had no choice than to let her go. “I feel like I failed my daughter because I should have seen different signs. I should have seen the change in my baby girl instead of the love that we instilled in her, that she was showing us and putting on a charade. So guess what? We can take responsibility. But to the world, how much responsibility did R. Kelly take?”

After the interview, police announced that they had received an anonymous call which claimed that there was a mass suicide happening at R Kelly’s Trump Tower apartment. The call turned out to be false.
