Yesterday, news broke that Everton had tried to buy Nigeria’s Alex Iwobi from Arsenal by tabling a £30million bid but the Gunners rejected the offer. Everton has returned with a bid of about £40million for the 23-year-old winger with hopes that the transfer can be completed before the deadline today.
Reports today say Arsenal have accepted Everton’s new offer, and the Merseyside outfit submitted a deal sheet that allowed them to have a 2-hour extension to sign Iwobi to their club. If this deal goes through, Iwobi will be the most expensive sale in Arsenal’s history.
Some publications say Alex Iwobi is currently undergoing a medical and will sign a five-year contract to join Everton from Arsenal for around £35-40m. Everything is expected to be completed without a problem before the extended 7 pm deadline. The winger is expected to have even more playing time at Everton when he moves.
Iwobi has been at Arsenal since he was only a young boy and has grown to become a regular in the team. While there, he played 149 games, scored 15 goals and gave 27 assists. He played in 100 Premier League games, scoring 11 goals in those games as well as providing 19 assists. This deal is definitely good business for Arsenal and we wish Iwobi an even more successful career at Everton.
