2Face and record label, Hypertek Entertainment were expected to appear before Justice Nyoku of Court 5 at the Federal High Court in Ikoyi on Tuesday, June 7, 2011 over an alleged breach of contract. Sued by Happy Boys Entertainment Limited who alleged 2face promised to include a purported duet with A-list US R&B act, R. Kelly in the initial edition of his third solo studio album ‘The Unstoppable’.
Bisi Bamgbala of Happy Boys Entertainment allegedly gave 2Face the sum of N25M for his incorporated expenses, gain and a duet with R. Kelly, but the artiste, Bamgbala says, failed to fulfill his end of the bargain. The allegations also include the release of the International edition of ‘The Unstoppable’ by Hypertek Entertainment, which the artiste repackaged with inclusion of new songs ‘without the consent of the Happy Boys marketers’.
Despite the much anticipated hearing and media buzz, no one from either side showed up at the court as Nigerian Entertainment Today (NET) was present. Speaking with one Mr. Murtala Alabi of Happy Boys Entertainment at exactly 11:17AM, he claimed, ‘Well, the court hearing has been postponed to October by the judge, because she couldn’t make it.’ But our reporter saw the judge at the court during a hearing that same morning just few minutes before he made the call told Mr. Murtala Alabi about it. He added almost immediately, ‘Maybe she came in later, but the case has been postponed to October’.
Who is covering who goes the question? Is it possible the man who seeks to prosecute another is at the same time willing to shield the accused? An adjourned case without a hearing sounds like one worthy of probe? Perhaps an agreement has been reached to settle out of court.
However, Mr. Murtala Alabi asked NET to email him questions in regards of the allegations leveled against the artiste and his record label, an email which he is yet to reply to since Wednesday, June 8, 2011 till date.
