Kobe Bryant gave 20 years of his life to the Los Angeles Lakers and the basketball club would be retiring the two numbers he wore. For the first 10 years of his career, he wore the 8 jersey, switching to 24 for the next ten. Both numbers would be retired by the Lakers in December.

Kobe wore the the 8 jersey from 1996 -2006 and the 24 for his remaining 20 years.  He will be the 10th basketball player to receive this honour by the Lakers but the first in the history of the NBA to have two numbers retired by the same team. His numbers will now be hung up on the Staples Center wall.

What does Bryant think about the honour?

‘As a kid growing up in Italy, I always dreamed of my jersey hanging in the Lakers rafters, but I certainly never imagined two of them.’
