Only greatness comes out when women work together.
We just came out of August, the month that sees women’s empowerment and achievements celebrated the world over.
It was only right to come up with a list that shows the seven biggest female music collaborations.
1. Whitney Houston and Mariah Carey – ‘When You Believe’
This song, which was released August 1998, is one of the biggest female ballads of all time. Whitney and Mariah came together to breathe new life into, ‘When You Believe’, a song from the animated musical movie, ‘Prince of Egypt’.
With a soaring orchestra behind them and those uplifting lyrics, these divas had no choice than to deliver the beloved classic we all know and love.
2. Yemi Alade, Waje, Victoria Kimani, Vanessa Mdee and co – ‘Strong Girl’
When Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde was ready to announce her One campaign to the world, she knew that she would need some major girl power to do so.
The campaign, which focuses on empowering women all over Africa, got a star-studded anthem featuring top female artistes from all over Africa, including Yemi Alade, Waje, Victoria Kimani and Vanessa Mdee, all of whom lent their voices to the girl-power anthem.
3. Beyoncé and Shakira – ‘Beautiful Liar’
This fiery collaboration had everyone whining and shaking their hips. The Latin heavy production fought its way up the charts and reigned there for more than a minute. The music video for the song is also one of the most iconic pop clips to exist.
4. Waje and Tiwa Savage – ‘Onye’
Waje and Tiwa came together in 2014 to create one of the best female collaborations in Nigerian pop history. A groovy track that doesn’t attempt to outdo itself, the two ladies showed us that they can still slay on a track with easy breezy production.
5. Jessie J, Ariana Grande and Nicki Minaj – ‘Bang Bang’
A summer anthem like none other, these three pop stars came together and created one of the most memorable jams to come out of 2014. Between Jessie’s pipes, Ariana’s riffs and Nicki’s swag, there was no way this song was not going to be a certified hit.
6. Yemi Alade and Kat DeLuna – ‘Over You’
What’s better than a female collaboration? A collaboration between two vocally powerful talents.
When Kat DeLuna reached out to Yemi Alade to hop on her 2016 track, ‘Over You’, it was a match made in pop culture heaven. The two songstresses gave their fans a real treat as they made some real vocal magic on the minimal track.
7. Nicki Minaj and Beyoncé – ‘Feeling Myself’
We are going to end our list with two familiar faces, Queen Bey and Queen Nicki.
This collaboration had the Internet shook and buzzing. It was a great moment for the two queens, who were at the top of their game, to drop such a phenomenal record.
