Dani Alves stars as PSG win French Super Cup, come from behind to beat Monaco

Dani Alves scored a spectacular free-kick and set up the winner to help PSG beat French champions, Monaco, to win the Trophee Des Champions.

Monaco’s sought-after teenage prodigy, Kylian Mbappe, had a fifth minute goal ruled out for offside while Alves, starting on the right of a front three, saw his shot saved the following minute.

Monaco took the lead in the match played in Tangier, Morocco through Djibril Sidibe‘s cool chip over PSG keeper, Alphonse Areola.

But Alves, who joined from Juventus in June, equalised for PSG with a long range free-kick in the 50th minute – his first goal for the club.

PSG then took the lead through Adrien Rabiot who rose higher then teammate, Edinson Cavani, to head in Alves’ cross in the 63rd minute.

The French Cup holders held on to beat Monaco 2-1 and claim a fifth successive French Super Cup win.

It will come as the boost for PSG’s morale ahead of the new Ligue 1 season which will see them host Amiens in their first game on August 5.

Monaco meanwhile will start their league title defence with a match at home to Toulouse on Friday, August 4.
