For years, Nigerian pop stars have struggled, and failed to make the desired level of international recognition they need, want and deserve.

2face Idibia, D’banj, and even Femi Kuti have all done their bit to put Nigerian music on the world map with very little to show for it.

The last 18 months have however seen a huge rise and desire by the international community to sounds from Nigeria. Jay Z has sent envoys to Lagos on two different occasions in the last 12 months, he’s even successfully signed Nigeria’s leading female singer, Tiwa Savage to his Roc Nation outfit.

Wizkid, Davido and even MC Galaxy have all garnered remarkable international recognition but like a thief in the night, Ayo Jay is sneaking up on them and no one saw it coming.

Born Ayoola Ogundeyi Jr in London, England, Ayo Jay began singing after he completed his high school education in Lagos.

Despite not having any endorsement or major award to his name yet, Ayo Jay has done remarkably well for himself.

Since he signed a record deal with New York One Nation Entertainment, his career has grown in leaps and bounds. First he dropped the infectious single ‘Your Number‘ which he later re-recorded with US rapper Fetty Wap in 2015.

In May 2016, Ayo Jay inked a new record deal with USA-based Sony Music label, RCA records whose roster consists of several notable artists such as Justin TimberlakeAlicia Keys, Pink, Taylor Swift, Grace, G-Eazy, ASAP Rocky, Tinashe and more.

Ayo Jay also got a duet with Chris Brown and Kid Ink on the ‘Your Number’ refix.
At this rate, its only a matter of time before Ayo Jay hits the A-list status in the Nigerian pop scene and possibly become the first and truly GLOBAL musician from this part of the world.
