(A notable critic and broadcaster, Benson Idonije, who happens to be the grandfather of Burna Boy, has been honoured by the University of Port Harcourt.)

Few weeks after respected broadcaster and music critic, Benson Idonije was honoured at the just concluded 3rd edition of the Nigerian Entertainment Conference, the veteran broadcaster has been honoured by the University of Port Harcourt, Uniport.

He was honoured with a fellowship of the Adam Fiberesima School of Music and Conservatory (AFSM) of the University of Port Harcourt. The award for the septuagenarian broadcaster, media trainer and commentator, was contained in a February 19 letter signed by Joseph Ajienka on behalf of the School.

Benson Idonije is Burna Boy’s grandfather and a one time manager of the late Fela Anikulapo-Kuti about whom he is writing a soon-to-be-released book titled: ‘DIS FELA SEF: The Untold Legends of Fela Anikulapo-Kuti’. The book, which he started writing six years ago as a recollection of his exclusive moments with the Afrobeat founder and respected music icon.

Aside writing so frequently in the newspapers and other international music journals, Idonije also maintains a busy schedule as a trainer of broadcasters and serving as a resource person to many broadcast organisations and music institutions in the country and beyond.
