It was indeed a celebration of love as Peter Okoye of Psquare and his long-time girlfriend/baby mama Lola Omotayo got married in a traditional ceremony on Sunday, November 17, 2013 at the Ark Event Centre, Lekki, Lagos.
The ceremony began with both families occupying the seats close to the stage where they discussed marital rites. Lola’s father and Russian mother led the Omotayo family while Peter’s father, an uncle and aunt represented the Okoyes.
Soon after, Paul and a group of friends arrived to introduce themselves to the bride’s family and were required to prostrate to the family as customary in the Yoruba tradition.
Dressed in a wine-coloured native wear and a red cap, Peter eventually came out and was accompanied by his friends to ask for the hand of the bride in marriage.
After series of formalities, the bride was finally announced with dancing and drumming. She was dressed in a red French lace and a cream coloured Aso-Oke. After the regular marriage rites and prayers, she was handed over to the Okoyes who accepted her from her family.
The first round of the occasion ended with the couple leaving the hall so as to go and have a change of clothing for the reception which followed immediately.
When they returned, Peter was dressed in white native attire and a red cap while Lola looked radiant in her green velvet wrapper, a red lace blouse with an extremely low neckline and a pink-coloured head-gear (gele).
From this point on, it was music and dance all the way.
The event was planned and coordinated by Ngozi Akintujoye and Omorinsola Arodundade of Perfect Coordinators. This was the same company that planned the celebrity wedding of Naeto C and Nicole Chikwe last year.
Right in the heart of Lekki Peninsula is the Ark Event Centre situated in a remote vicinity. The sitting arrangement was divided into two areas, the VIP section for celebrities and then the regular for the other guests. The room itself was well lit up with chandeliers and neatly decorated tables. The smartly dressed ushers and servers added a bit more class to the venue.
Decoration of the hall was put together by The Wedding Guru. The spacious fully air-conditioned banquet hall designed to seat over a thousand guests was decorated with silver and white colours plus a little touch of purple. The stage where the couple sat was lit with shiny bright lights. The all-white background of the stage was embellished with red roses and a logo made of letters ‘L and P’, initials of Lola and Peter on the wall of the stage and on the floor.
Cutting of the Cake
After a series of blessings pronounced by Lola Odele, a member of the Omotayo family, the couple eventually cut their wedding cake. They were later joined on the set of the cake by brother, Paul Okoye and his fiancée, Anita Esama.

Lola Odele, a member of the Omotayo family officiated the first part of the event, being the performance of the marriage rites.
Food and drinks vendors
The food vending for the event was handled by five different companies who provided varieties of dishes. They included Kemabod Catering, Demo Ultimate Small Chops, Elshadai Catering Services, Ahuoma Kitchens, Hampton Catering Services and 12 Baskets Foods Limited.
The security at the event was very tight. Journalists, fans and guests that were not with invites were barred from the entering the premises. Besides the scary hefty-bodied security personnel from K-Square, the officers of the Nigerian Army were also on ground to maintain order.
There was the live music provided by the popular Sharp Band. To complement that, was the turn table wrecking skills of DJ Stramborella of the ‘Efrebor’ fame playing mixes of some the best Nigerian dance songs.

It took about 20 minutes for Irabor’s driver to return with the invitation card.
